چکیده

In June, 2021, laurel willow ( Salix pentandra ) near Slave Lake, Alberta, was found to be infected by a Melampsora sp. that produced bright yellow urediniospores in uredia were present on catkins, leaves, and stems. All species previously reported Canada are recorded as infecting leaves; therefore, further investigation undertaken ascertain the identity of this pathogen. To assess relationship between specimen other spp. collected from Canada, samples leaves sourced mycological herbariums located at Laurentian Forestry Centre (QFB) Northern (CFB, WINF(M)). DNA sequence data internal transcribed spacer (ITS) ribosomal RNA region fresh specimen, herbarium specimens, deposited within GenBank, used conduct phylogenetic analysis. Sequencing BLAST analysis material sample resulted 99.3% match epitea “Mel J” Larix laricina New York State. The ITS WINF(M)7356 (described M. abieti-capraearum Manitoba) had 100.0% with Alberta sample. Additionally, specimens WINF(M)11892 CFB8931 Yukon) 99.0% From these results we applied rust discovered AB. With current emphasis willows for bioenergy production growers must remain vigilant pathogen damages it could cause plantations.

A new species of Melampsora rust on Salix elbursensis from Iran

A rust fungus was found causing stem cankers on 1to 5-year-old stems of Salix elbursensis in the north west of Iran. The rust also forms uredinia on leaves and flowers of the host willow. Light and scanning electron microscopy revealed that the new rust is morphologically distinct from several Melampsora species occurring on the willows taxonomically close to S. elbursensis, but indistinguishab...

First report of Fusarium chlamydosporum causing crown rot and dumping of on Durum wheat in Algeria

Several species of Fusarium infect durum wheat plants in the eastern part of Algeria. Endophytic fungus from random wheat seeds were sampled from fifty locations in eastern Algeria and shows the existence of Fusarium chlamydosporum regarding the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Molecular identification using EF1 and ITS1 primers were confirmed the presence of Fusarium chlamydosporum...

Salix × meyeriana (= Salix pentandra × S. euxina)―a forgotten willow in Eastern North America

Salix pentandra L. is a boreal species native to Europe and western Siberia. In North America it is considered to have been introduced to about half of the US states (Argus 2007, 2010). In Massachusetts it is reported from nine of the fourteen counties (Sorrie & Somers 1999). Even though this plant may have been introduced to the US and Canada, its naturalization in North America appears to be ...

Molecular and morphological characterization of the willow rust fungus, Melampsora epitea, from arctic and temperate hosts in North America.

Current taxonomy places all rust fungi that occur on willow (Salix spp.) in North America in one species complex, Melampsora epitea Thüm. Characteristics of M. epitea isolates from the Canadian arctic were compared to M. epitea isolates from temperate regions of North America. Sequences from internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of rDNA were obtained from urediniospores from rust-infected S...
